  • A few ships have been sent by the Order of the Chief God to the coasts of Zipangu. Knowing that the Mamono of the foreign continent were much calmer than the more feral monsters in their own land, the Order’s temples have enlisted several missionaries to travel to Zipangu and attempt to keep its human and monster inhabitants chaste, by whatever means necessary. They have even planned for some resistance from the locals, and have brought soldiers with them to ensure conformity.

After taking the village of Tsumini off of Zipangu’s coast, the Order has run into a dilemma. The Mist Continent’s navy spotted their invasion, and are planning to assist in defending Zipangu from attack. The Order plans on pushing further into Zipangu to Karujo City.

You can choose to be either a Zipanguan (I think that’s what they’re called) or an Orderite. Sticking to Mamono from Zipangu is preferred, if you wish to play as one. You may also play as a Mist Continent troop.

The cushions to the couch had been torn apart, but the leather could be used as a makeshift bedroll. Looking back, the bed would be much more comfortable than a few strips of leather.

    • Nureta gasped awake and then gripped a part of her head with one of her fluffy paws. What was that? That was... strange and a bit foreboding.

A lot to digest, but it was also probably just a dream or rather a nightmare. Was it just a dream though? That seemed oddly specfic, though not really out there as it was about the Order and stuff's going on about the Order right now.

Sighing, Nureta stood up and went to look outside to see if she could find Cordis and the merchant.

If nothing went horribly wrong, Cordis would be next to the cart. Cordis's helmet craning back and forth for any potential intruders still.

    • (Sure. Look at the thread description for choices)

The lamia yawned and woke up, noticing the man in her coils trying to get out. “Mmm, morning already? Oh well,” The Shirohebi would slowly release Vez’nan, slithering up to the hole in the tree and peeking out. “Break of dawn. I hope you slept well?”

The Unagi was speaking to a man with shaggy brown hair and hazel eyes, both of them turning to face her. “Ah, Risu spoke highly of you as a singer. I don’t believe we caught your name though.”

The merchant was still steering the cart. “We’re almost there, just a few more minutes.”

        Loading editor

    • Sebastian slowly stood whilst looking around the room. There was a feeling of sickness looming over. Not really due to the room itself, but something else.

Walking into the kitchen, he searched every drawer, attempting to find any sort of drink or food.

“Sterling, Cade Sterling,” He’d hold out his hand to shake. “A pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard of your vocal skills, moving people to tears! If you could show me your singing in the next hour, and it’s is as phenomenal as I understand, you can consider yourself hired.”

No food, and no drink. It seemed like it was all looted just as Myuu had said. A quiet yawn from the bedroom could be heard, followed by a soft-smiling Myuu. “Good morning. I know I don’t have any food, but I can scrape something up for you with some herbs outside?”

“Alright,” She’d look back to him with solemn eyes. “Let me ask you something. Do you acknowledge that, at any point in the night, I could’ve taken advantage of you?”

        Loading editor
    • “Morning.” Sebastian would say, shutting the door to whatever drawer he was looking in. “You would do that?” He then asked, clearly curious.

    • Reaching the village of Taboso, the man could see that it was a small, quaint place, with simplest merchants and simple farmers. He saw a few guards patrolling the settlement, tabards depicting a purple flame as an emblem.

There was a good area that was empty of any houses or shops. He could set down a stand there.

It took a while, but Myuu returned with a large bowl of green, transparent liquid. She’d pour some into a cup before giving it to Sebastian. “I think you’ll enjoy it.”

"Though I must extend an offer of employment to you, if only because it means this venture might have borne fruit. "

    • Nureta would smile and nod her head as she grabbed some bread and ate some of it for breakfest as she hopped to the seat next to the merchant.

Cordis said nothing for a while as she continued following the cart. Than her helmet turned towards the merchant. "Do you have any distilled Spirit Energy vials?"

    • Sebastian eyed the bowl suspiciously. Of course, he was hungry, but at the same time, she could have put anything inside this bowl.

“Ha! My friend, those are quite rare in Zipangu, and very few are even in stock at the capital itself. What would you need distilled SE for?”

It was sweet. Perhaps the sweetest taste he ever had. No fruit or candy or juice was comparable to it. It was also quite thick in texture, like honey, but less dense. The fresh taste of herbs was also present, obviously there to wake up the senses to the sweetness. “Well? How is it?”

It was a small settlement, so it took some time before someone took notice of the visitor. It was a man leading a small Chochin-Obake towards the newcomer, seeming to be his daughter. “Hello, good sir. I don’t believe I’ve seen you around here before.”

(What songs would even exist in the MGE world?) “Whatever song you think you sing the best.” The man would smile.

    • Menagerie nodded and walked over to her stage, then she began to sing. This time, her sog wasn't melancholic at all, instead, it was quite joyful. Menagerie sang spectacular high notes, which shook the windows, though not enough to break them. By the time her song was over, her final note was calm and elegant, like a gentle wave had crashed against her entranced crowd.

The guest room was quite nice for one on a farm. The rising sun shined through the windows of the room, the curtains having been kept open.

    • “Well, as you stated, this meal has no damaging effects. The opposite, apparently. And although using saliva is admittedly weird, it isn’t as bad as some things I’ve had to eat...” Sebastian explained, a shiver running down his spine afterward.

    • Shira slithered in, looking around the house. “Do you know who owned this home before you?”

They all nodded and stopped training, many sitting down on logs or barrels of hay, while others went back to the makeshift barracks to get food.

Once he entered, the man saw many patrons laughing and cheering on the Banshee from earlier, who was now on stage.

“Well, I am glad you like it.” She’d smile a little before grabbing a sack from a drawer. “Well, I should probably get some real food. If you’d like, you can join me.”

    • The man scanned the area a bit before sitting at a table, listening to the music while he waited for service.

    • "No, do you know?" Vez'nan asks as he walks into the kitchen.

    • “Hello sir!” An Unagi Joro slithered up to him. “What can I get ya?”

“No, but it’s strange. They owned these bright green cacti, which only grow in the Desert Region.”

    • "So that means this house could have belonged to someone from that damned place! I'll have to burn those cacti..."

        Loading editor
    • “What’s wrong with the Desert Region? They keep to themselves for the most part, don’t they?”

    • Menagerie spotted the man walk in and smiled, all the while, she continued to sing her enchanting song, ending it with a beautiful long note. Once she was done, Menagerie walked over to the man's table and sat across from him "Hope you don't mind my company" she said as she sat down.

    • "I'll just have some water for now." He said towards the waitress and turned towards Menagerie, giving her a smile. "I dont mind. Your singing is quite lovely."

    • "Thank you for the compliment. Singing is a great way to pass the time, and I do love it" She replied, turning to Risu "I'll have some water as well" she said, turning back to the man. "I don't think we've introduced ourselves to each other yet. I am Menagerie, and quite the star here" she'd say with a wink.

    • "Scorpions." Was all Vez'nan said as he left the kitchen and went upstairs.

    • "My names Sato. I am quite new here. So are you forigen to Zipangu? I personally come from the mountains North of here."

    • Risu would brink back two glasses of water before leaving to take other customers’ orders.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie took a sip of her water, "I am foreign to the entire Zipangu, and I actually towed away on one of the Order ships that ported in the port village Tsumini a ways back. But, don't let anyone know that secret" she said, with another wink, taking another sip of her water.

        Loading editor
    • "Well your secret is safe with me. So how have you been enjoying your stay?"

        Loading editor
    • "It's been quite nice, actually. I have a nice job, not to mention a new friend who works here. Though, there is someone I'd like to see again" she'd say with a polite smile and light tint of blush on her cheeks.

        Loading editor
    • "Oh, care to share who?"

        Loading editor
    • "He's a pleasant young man named, Haruto. He was nice enough to give me something to eat and drink, as well as directions to this village. I gave him a gift, and I came here. I'm glad he didn't tell the Order about me, it'd be a shame to be betrayed by such a cute face!" she said, holding her cheeks with her palms. Menagerie regained her composure. "So, what about you? Anyone special in your life currently?" she asked, with a sly smile while taking another sip from her water.

        Loading editor
    • "Too much traveling on my end to have a love life."

    • There was a knock on Vez’nan’s door. “Sir? Might I have a word with you? We found something out in the forest.”

        Loading editor
    • "Well, that's unfortunate," Menagerie said, standing up. "Well, it's time for another performance. We'll talk later, Sato" Menagerie said, walking to her stage once again and began to sing a melodic song, as she floated around the inn.

        Loading editor
    • People watched with wonder and awe at the beautiful singing. Halfway into the song, however, she felt something. Almost like a tug at her heartstrings. Something didn’t seem right.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie ended the song on a quick note, landing back on her stage. "Sorry for the short performance everyone, but... I have to take care of something, important" she'd say, before heading to her room rather quickly. Once she was inside, she'd lock the door behind her and close her eyes, holding her fist over her heart. "What's happening to me?"

        Loading editor
    • Sebastian stood. “Yes, lets.” He’d say, pausing briefly to stare at nothing. It was quite odd.

However, it didn’t take long for him to pack up and be out the front door, taking a deep breath of the fresh air.

        Loading editor
    • The situation seemed to become increasingly more urgent. A faint, subtle voice, tiny but familiar, was echoing. I’m just a hermit, I swear...

        Loading editor
    • Immediately, Menagerie realized whose voice it was, 'Haruto?!' she thought, quickly rushing out of her door, downstairs, and out of the inn. Once she was outside, Menagerie had taken to the sky, flying towards Haruto's hut in the forest. Finally, she found his hut, and landed.

        Loading editor
    • The hut was being surrounded by guards, and a priest that stepped out the door. In manacles and bruises was a very disheveled Haruto, being held in place by two paladins. The priest crossed his arms. “We detected very powerful traces of Demonic Energy in your home. We know you housed a Mamono here. If you do not tell us where she is, you’ll be thrown in with the rest of the village prisoners.”

        Loading editor
    • Sato would watch as she abruptly left. He wasn't sure why but he decided to leave the inn. While he would have followed to see if he could help, she was long gone. He simply sighed and checked the time.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie hid behind a tree, ' 'Poor Haruto, I promise to get you out of here!' 'she thought. Of course, the hardest part would be getting rid of that Priest, since they'd be on the same level of magical skill as Menagerie. So, Menagerie decided to use her magic and put three of the guards under illusions, making them see the other guards as Mamono, then she'd sing a song to put the two paladins holding Haruto to sleep.

        Loading editor
    • The paladins would slowly drop to their knees and fall to the floor, both of them snoring and dropping Haruto to his hands and knees. Three other guards did double takes as their comrades turned into Succubi and pulled out their swords, screaming at each other. “Demon! They’re demons!” All the while Haruto was looking around in confused fear while the priest raised his arms in preparation for more witchcraft.

Santo checked the time. It was early in the afternoon.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie noticed the Priest and released a sonic scream directly at him, careful to not completely destroy everyone's eardrums.

        Loading editor
    • The priest screamed and held his ears, wincing in pain. He’d shout something as a small glowing bubble encircled him, shielding him of the screaming voice. He looked in the scream’s direction as balls of light emanated from his hands. Before he could cast another spell, someone charged into him, breaking the barrier with one of the sleeping paladin’s greatswords and knocking the priest to the ground. There was a struggle before the missionary blasted his assailant away, knocking him into a tree and falling down. Haruto.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie spotted Haruto, and stepped out of her hiding spot, immediately, she flew over to him and hugged him, pulling his face into her bust, before releasing him. "Are you alright?" she would ask, directing her hand towards the Priest, stretching her fingers apart, creating a wall-like barrier between them.

        Loading editor
    • “M-Madam Menagerie?” Haruto would look up from her hug, a blushed smile forming on his face. “I... I think so...” Meanwhile, the missionary was getting up, energy illuminating his hands as he began to fire beams of light at the barrier, slowly weakening it.

Myuu walked out towards the beach, looking at the sand meticulously. “The market’s merchants are no longer able to sell their wares, so we’ll have to get our food elsewhere.”

        Loading editor
    • "Aww... How cute. Excuse me a moment" Menagerie said, turning to the missionary, she'd wave her hand, causing the barrier to disappear. Menagerie's hands would illuminate with purple & black energy, though her hands could still be seen. "Do you really want to do this?" Menagerie would ask the Priest, before firing a beam of energy, purposely at a tree, creating a hole right through its trunk.

    • Sato gave a sigh and decided to tale a stroll around town. Maybe he'd try selling his wares again.

Of course, when you do die, I'll be right there with you, and I'll sing you a lullaby so you'll come back to me. I would never let you die permanently. Now tell me, what happened here?" she'd ask looking amongst the unconscious guards and sleeping paladins.

      (Also, goodnight Mek!)

    • He’d blush again, but winced as he lifted his hands, a large scorch mark burned into side of his right rib from the blast of light. “T-They found my home. They almost let me go, but they brought a priest with them. H-He sensed you from yesterday, a-and he tried to get me to t-talk... hence the bruises...” He was choking up a bit. “I’m s-so glad you’re safe.”

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie's eyes began to tear up, and she let them fall. "I'll heal your burns," she said, holding her hands over Haruto's right rib. A stream of light flowed from Menagerie's hands to Haruto's burn mark, which gave off a cozy warmth, once she was done, Haruto's burn was completely healed. "There, how does that feel?" she asked, rubbing her cold fingertips over where the burn was originally.

        Loading editor
    • Haruto would shudder at her touch, the pain that throbbed on his side was now replaced with a lukewarm heat, which seemed to be mimicked by other parts around his body now. “I feel... m-much better now,” He’d subtly try to hide it. “T-Thank you.” He’d raise his hand to push her hair back and wipe her tears away.

        Loading editor
    • "You're quite welcome, Haruto. However, you should probably find somewhere else to stay. In case, that Priest comes back with reinforcements, I don't want to see you get hurt again" she said, wiping tears from her eyes.

    • He’d nod, getting up slowly and grabbing a knapsack from his hut. He’d gather what he needed before coming back out. “You left for Taboso. Did you find a home there?”

Another person, this time a Mantis, walked up to Sato’s collection of wares. “Hello. Whatcha got here?”

Fayard heard a commotion in the distance, probably on the other side of the village. Some shouting and yelling.

“We found a hut in the woods, sir. This man who lives there seems to have housed a monster with powerful magic. We might need you to investigate it.”

    • Fayard caught his arbaleste hanging from his back, and began to charge it as he rushed toward the shouting.

        Loading editor
    • A crowd of soldiers had gathered around a priest who was pointing in the direction of the forest, clearly disheveled and out of breath. “Witchcraft! There’s a flying monster using dark sorcery!”

    • Fayard rushed over, his gaze fixed on the forest. Finishing to insert a bolt into his weapon.
"Calm down father, we are here."

    • “We were arresting a man who I believed was housing a magically powerful Mamono, and all of a sudden my solderis turned against each other and a few of them fell to the ground!”

      "And then?"

    • "Various items. Pottery, jewelry, art, books, and some mountain steel knives. Anything your intrested in?"

        Loading editor
    • “That flying Mamono whore screeched at me! A horrifying, ear-defeaning scream that felt like my head was splitting open! I blocked it off and tried to fight her, but her black sorcery was too powerful to be defeated by my hand alone. I lost her somewhere in the forest, she’s probably near the hut still.”

“Do you have any jewelry with emeralds, perhaps?”

    • Fayard prevented himself from swearing. It was complicated.
"Three volunteers with me. The others accompanied the priest to his superiors, that he could explain the situation to them and returned to their occupations"

She glanced over to Cordis who didn't say a word to her response. It was true, she was the only one who rested and ate anything from the cart.

Cordis merely scanned the streets of the Zipangu city, this was all very different from where she once was. A lot more sand and a lot less buildings.

It wasn't a bad-look, Cordis mused to herself and kept pressing on. "Shall we inform them immediately of their presence?"

        Loading editor
    • “Yes,” He’d look around nervous that more soldiers would arrive at any moment.

The soldier trotted towards the hut, accompanying three other soldiers and Captain Fayard.

Haruto seemed a little scared, but shook his head of his fears and took the Banshee’s hand.

        Loading editor
    • “Y—Yes, it is... very beautiful.” Haruto tried to look down a bit more, but was still a little nervous at such a height.

The soldiers and the Captain arrived to see multiple soldiers on the ground, either asleep or groaning in pain. What was more were the wilting spots of grass it the shape of a person’s feet.

She’d take out a small bowl from her knapsack and would dig with it, bringing up small mussels and putting them in the bag. “Mussel meat will have to do for today.”

“Oooooh, yes.” She’d eye it with piqued interest. “Did you make this yourself?”

Go ahead and get some rest, the patrons will understand.”

Myuu would continue collecting them until the knapsack was full, then would walk back to the house. “H-How would you like them? Steamed?”

“It’s beautiful.” She’d gaze at its clean cuts. “How much?”

Haruto would knock on the door. “Madam? A-Are you in there?” He was polite enough to not enter, even if the door was slightly ajar.

No one noticed until later that day, when a Kunoichi in a simple kimono stopped by. This may be the first time Sato had ever seen a Kunoichi that wasn’t fully geared. “Hi there. I heard you’re selling mountain steel blades?”

Myuu was silent for a bit as she finished sweeping and got back to the mussels, counting how many she got. She then spoke. “That talk can be, well... dangerous. You could be punished for that.”

Haruto would enter and close the door before freezing in place, seeing the Banshee in full now. He started blushing profusely. “M-M-M-Madam M-Menagerie... I, erm, a-apologize for intruding. I t-thought you said...” He trailed off.

“You’re the first one I’ve interviewed.” He’d admit whilst looking over the cover of his journal. “Anything else is personal matter.”

It seemed ‘personal matter’ was all he was willing to say about the rest of the journal. “I may try to obtain another ‘servant’, though I do not know if they will allow out,” He explains, “Nor if I’ll be able to handle it.”

    • (Decided to go Zipanguan, but with a twist.)

From the outskirts of a town nearby, a lone figure wearing a bizarre amalgamation of armor ranging from a heavy looking iron hat hiding his eyes down to the plated jacket and brown boots limped off from the dirt path toward the woods. At first glance, any passerby would have mistaken his attire to be a full black suit covering around his body until they realised his skin was a deep charcoal.

A guardless katana hung lazily at the left hip of his cargopants while a large ugly sword was sheathed between his back and the black knapsack on his shoulders. The stranger looked worse for wear as he grimaced in pain and sat down upon a tree for him to rest against.

I liked it better when I wasn’t feeling welcomed without being attacked on sight. Still, they must have been busy looting while I was out, so... mine now.”

A bottle of sake was soon produced from the bag as he uncorked by teeth and gave it a swig.

    • Both Fayard and Vez’nan approached the hut, though no one was inside. Vez’nan could feel an overwhelming amount of DE all over the place, especially from an empty bowl of soup and a drained cup of some beverage.

Myuu glanced at Sebastian. He didn’t mean harm. She should’ve seen that from the beginning, but was blinded by her fear of the Order. She took out a kitchen knife and began splitting the mussels. “... You know, if you’re like that... I don’t have to be just a servant. And neither do any other people you interview. You’re saving lives by doing this. You know that, right?”

The man could hear birds chirping and a slight breeze blowing east. The wind had brought a strange smell to the man’s nose before dying out with the air. Something was over there.

    • "I am?" Sebastian questioned, a little curious now. To him, he was simply conducting interviews. Nevertheless, he wrote something down in his notebook before looking upon the mussels she was cutting.

"Well, I suppose after this meal I will go get another one to interview."

    • Before he could heft his third bottle, a strange smell came across his nose causing him to freeze for a moment right after the bottle touched his lips.

Putting it down, he placed his right hand on the katana and listened carefully for any signs of disturbances.

    • "It's no problem, Risu. I'll be quick, right after my performance" she'd say, stepping on the stage. Menagerie would close her eyes, and begin to sing a soothing melody. Menagerie would also perform the tiniest bit of magic and create an aurora borealis above the patrons.

        Loading editor
    • As Fayard looked around, none of the soldiers had gotten up yet. Even the sleeping paladins were unable to be woken up.

Eventually, Myuu would lift the pot and pour the boiling water into a tub near the bed. She’d then carefully scoop the steamed mussels onto a plate before giving it to Sebastian. “Help yourself to any spices you see on the counter. I’ll... be right back.” She’d walk out of the hut with an anxious face.

Vez’nan could make out a lot of Demonic Energy higher in the air. It seemed to head northwest, but the breeze made it difficult to determine, as well as a strange smell in the wind. In fact, the breeze seemed to carry the odor interestingly. This scent was filled with Demonic Energy, it seemed.

“...Yes, I do,” THe Kunoichi would look in its direction before quickly paying for the knife and putting it away. “Thanks again!” She seemed to be off in a hurry.

No sounds could be heard by the inebriated man, only the scent could be recognized as it seemed to travel through the air.

THe patrons would all gasp and reach up, wanting to touch the pretty glow emanating from the Banshee’s spell. That combined with her beautiful singing had people staring off in awe, and some even falling asleep to the soft melody.

    • As Menagerie's song ended, the aurora borealis dissipated. "I hope everyone enjoyed the performance"  Menagerie would say, walking over to Risu. "Now then, is there a specific place in Tsumini that you'd like me to check? Or just ask around?"

    • Vez'nan sighed. "She and her husband are long gone! If you wish to pursue them search for nearby villages." He then smelled the strange scent. "Ugh! What is that?"

    • (The time is now Sunset) All who are outside can now smell the odor in the air, a musky, damp stench. Mamono and magic users know it is a form of Demonic Energy.

“No specific place, I’m afraid. All I know is that he goes to the market to buy fish, then returns about a day later. His name is Hatachi, slender and tanned man with brown hair. Oh, I hope he’s alright...”

The soldiers would depart, many of them heading backto Tsumini to find a navigator. The odor seemed to increase in strength gradually.

Sato smelled the odor, and from where he was in Taboso, it seemed to be coming from the southeast.

The smell increased in strength as the drunk man got up. It seemed to be stagnant in the air from where he was now.

Myuu would rush back in, shutting the house’s door. “It’s coming, Sebastian! Take off any Orderite tabards or symbols, now!”

    • The stranger gagged at the damp odor gestating all around him as he struggled to gulp whatever precious air he could find. He stumbled to his knees and knocked over the sake bottle, not caring that he had spilled his favorite past time while trying to find that one mask that would help him breathe during these thick foggy nights on his travels in his sack.

“Oh nonononononono... don’t puke just yet...” His slurred voice rambled in panic until he finally found his filter apparatus underneath the trinkets he carried and fumbled with the straps as he tried to put it on quickly.

    • (Would it be better if I created a simple map for everyone to follow? That way you’ll get directions and whatnot?)

Sato noticed how it started to die off as it lingered. The smell seemed to be retreating from his position.

Menagerie was suddenly hit with the strong, unmistakable smell of Demonic Energy in th air, seeming to cover all of the area as she flew to Tsumini.

The drunken man was too busy finding and putting on his mask to notice large figures passing by him, their odor now being blocked by his mask.

“Just cover yourself up then! They might take you away!” Myuu would close the blinds and curtains before taking a blanket and placing it in front of Sebastian. “Just put it on and continue eating, okay?”

Fayard could smell the stench seemingly heading towards their area as they took the unconscious men back to the village.

    • Sato was a bit puzzled by the phenomenon that was occurring. He decided to keep wandering for the source and if it continued to avoid him, search for something else to do.

        Loading editor
    • The smell didn’t seem to necessarily avoid him. Rather, it seemed to be heading in a direction. The village of Taboso did connect to a road leading further to the coast, which was where the odor seemed to be wafting towards.

    • Fayard sniffed the air. "What is this smell?"
(I thought humans could not detect demonic energy)

    • With the mask finally on, he took in a deep breath of filtered air and sighed out in relief. Unwary of whatever occurred while he was occupied, he steadied himself and decided to pack up his belongings. The wretched stench could be coming from a source so large, it was no wonder he felt sick to his stomach the moment it hit his nose.

With his legs now wobbling from the alcohol, he staggered back to the path and urged himself to get to the nearest place he could stay at despite knowing well enough that his own people will greet him coldly for his ‘condition’. Even so, an inn or an alley felt more safe than being exposed to whatever was going on outside.

“To hell with everyone...” he muttered in distaste.

    • Vez'nan, realizing that the smell was caused by something demonic, began to cast a spell of holy shielding upon himself.

    • Sebastian became a bit worried as Myuu placed a curtain in front of him. For some reason, he started to think she was being serious. But, there was an Order force out there... Is she implying they would fall.

“Wait, Myuu, what is out there? What do you mean?” Fear was now evident in his voice as he wrapped himself in the curtain.

    • (The time is now Dusk)

Fayard could tell that whatever was creating that odor was coming closer.

Sato found himself walking through the dense forest, and the smell became more noxious the closer he approached.

From where he was, the dirt road was in the drunk man’s field of vision. However, depending on his level of intoxication, he might not be able to recognize it.

Upon doing so, the odor seemed to recede from him as the Demonic Energy recoiled from the light.

“The recluses from Aikushi! They must’ve heard of the Order’s presence.” Myuu would quiet down to a whisper. “They never leave the mountains. Haven’t emerged since almost a century ago.”

    • Fayard checked the distance to go before joining the village.

"How powerful are they? And why would they take me?" He questions in a low voice.

    • Sato wasn't sure what he was exactly looking for but he kept going, curious driving him.

    • Night had came in faster than he thought and the fact that he was moderately drunk while wearing his sight impairing mask did not help him in the slightest. Nearly everything was a blur, but he could still think somewhat clearly.

The man couldn’t find the dirt road due to his temporary handicap and cursed silently as he slowly trudged carefully along the line of the woods. On every occasion, his feet would hit a stray rock or step on a small hole causing him minor nuisances toward his toes.

Without warning, one of his feet tripped against something hard and he fell down.

        Loading editor
    • Vez'nan sighed in relief before he sat down. He had no means to contact the village and didn't want to waste his energy on casting spells of protection every time he left the boundaries of one. Looks like it was time to wait...

    • (Unless you’re going to commit fully to this, I’m going to keep it to the number of people we have now. It’s hard to respond to everyone here as it is.)

The village was only a few minutes’ walk away from where Fayard was standing.

“T-They’re probably the most fearsome Mamono in Zipangu. They always hide in their caves under the mountains, but come out very rarely in search of a mate.” Myuu would look around for anything to barricade the door with, but remembered she already used much of her furniture. “Any man who doesn’t have a mate is a potential husband. And because there are so many chaste Orderites in Tsumini now...” She’d trail off.

Soon Sato was nearing it to point of it being stagnant all around him. He could hear something near him, sounding like very large but very soft footsteps. Nothing could be seen, however.

A loud snap would break the silence of the night. Looking at his foot, it appeared to be a rock. He had landed on a branch, and any creature that asn’t deaf could probably hear it from several dozen feet away.

Vez’nan was still by the now abandoned hut. It was just a few minutes walk back to Tsumini... that’s when he thought he heard movement further off into the woods.

Menagerie attempted to follow the musky scent. It seemed to be heading towards Tsumini.

        Loading editor
    • “...So, because of the large influx of free men, just how many are coming out in search?” Sebastian asked while hastily writing in his journal. It appeared he did not acknowledge her feeble attempts to barricade the door.

    • As Menagerie got closer to Tsumini, she could smell the Demonic Energy from a very potent source. Where's this Demonic Energy coming from?' she wondered, heading towards the fish market.

    • “According to written scripts over a hundreds years ago, almost fifty rampaged Tsumini, as well as another 125 attacking the nearby villages Taboso and Harakuni. Just imagine that number after generations of mating. That’s around 100 to 150 of them now, excluding the other villages.”

Guards were patrolling the area with much higher security since Menagerie had fought the priest, but being sneaky up in the air would cloud her Demonic Energy within the odor.

The steps seemed to get louder, and the earth around him seemed to shake a little. It almost sounded like a stampede of tip-toeing cattle.

        Loading editor
    • “150... Here... Strongest monsters.” Sebastian’s fear could be very much heard as he paced around the room. He was doing his best to hold the sheet and journal, but with shaky hands and the fear of knowing some legendary beast from the past could step through that door and take him away just like that... It wasn’t doing him much good.

        Loading editor
    • Menagerie had failed to notice the guards patrolling, distracted by the powerful scent. "It's close, I can practically taste it" she'd say, sniffing the air again to reclaim the scent.

    • “... I have an idea, but I don’t think you’ll like it.” She’d sigh, knowing that he’d most likely reject it.

The guards spotted her, and brought up their torches to see before running at her. “It’s the flying Mamono! Sound the alarm!”

Before he could even spot them, large, beastly figures ran towards him, but went charging straight by him. He couldn’t make out what they were; it was too dark and they were too fast to tell.

    • Menagerie realized the guards had spotted her, but before she could fly away, they swarmed her, completely surrounding Menagerie on all sides. "Honestly, I need to be more aware of my surroundings" she'd say, as purplish-black energy illuminated from her hands. "Alright boys, you brought this on yourself" Menagerie would say, obviously ready to fight.

    • Sato would end staring in the direction they ran, a bit stunned. "Why was that... And what were they running from?" He asked himself as he looked in the direction where they came.

    • The guards surrounding her all backed up one step before a flashing spell was fired down at Menagerie’s feet. A sudden bubble-like shield of white and yellow magic encased her within, sealing off everyone except her. Looking around, she saw the priests and mages around her casting the spell in unison, making it all the more powerful. She had been trapped.

The odor that Sato was smelling gradually dissipated as the sprinting creatures ran off. It seemed like they were the ones causing it. It was all the more strange, since the odor came from the direction of the coast.

    • She’d sigh. “You need Demonic Energy to make it look like you’re marked as a husband. My saliva has enough in it to mask your scent and keep them from snatching you up.” She’d walk over to the tub by the bed. “I’m guessing you don’t want to be slavered, so I’ll just dilute as much as I can in a tub of water and hope that masks you just as well as the real thing.”

    • "Are you kidding me?!" Menagerie said, crossing her arms. "So, what are you going to do with me now?" she asked, raising one of her eyebrows.

    • “...You’re plan is to cover me in saliva?” Sebastian asks, just wanting to make sure.

He’d walk over to the window and peek outside, his heart racing a bit. A small part of him wanted to see one, even interview one... But the majority of his body reminded him the fate that would befall him if he was to attempt such a thing...

    • He heard a loud snap as he fell to the ground. Luckily, nothing of his was broken. Unfortunately, he landed on a wooden branch when he tripped over that rock.

He got up and felt the ground shaking, a patter of tremors from where he could hear the faint crashing of the waters. His mind soon switched to panic mode as the stompings became clearer.

“What the hell is that? Sounds like something heavy.” The wasted man started to sober up a little from the rush of adrenaline. “Shit, where do I go? What should I do?”

He thought up some options from playing dead, wandering some more randomly and hope that nothing found him, or climb up one of the trees and hide.

    • The spellcasters all looked at each other like `Oh shit, we didn’t think this through.` They all just shrugged and focused their spell inward, causing the bubble to slowly shrink. They were trying to smother her!

“...Yes.” She’d blush. “It’s either doing that, or putting you in a bath of watered saliva and hoping it will work.” She’d watch him go to the window. “These things are ravenous. Even if you tried to reason with one of them, another will just sneak up behind you and take you away.”

The drunk man would have to choose fast; the stampeding noise was getting louder and closer by the second.

    • Menagerie watched the bubble slowly shrink, "Really?" she'd say, shooting a beam of energy at the bubble trying to break it before it smothered her. Seeing as it wasn't working, Menagerie decided to surround herself in her own protective bubble and tried to push it outward, trying to counteract the spellcaster's bubble.

    • “Are those really the only ways?” Sebastian questioned, looking back at Myuu, clearly not enthused to do her idea.

Catching her blush, he wrote something in his journal before rubbing the back of his neck. The solution almost seemed so simple, but seeing her blush, he didn’t know what to think. As much as he thought she was kidding, he didn’t know why she’d lie.

Worry joined his fear as he thought about all the men outside that would just get snatched away, without a chance to do anything... He wrote something else in his journal.

        Loading editor
    • “Fuck it, if it’s Mamonos, they’ll smell me at a close distance!” He made his choice and decided to run at a random direction. He could hear the stampede somewhere, but he couldn’t tell where exactly. His vision was starting to clear up a little, but the mask still made it hard to see in the dark.

The fellow breathed hard as he picked up his legs and pumped forward as fast as he could muster. Years of traveling and exposure to some of the rough terrain made him more robust and agile, but he knew most of the Mamonos could still beat him to the pace.

He shifted his backpack and continued his half-sprint to gods-know-where. The pack was bulged, likely to be filled with items of his adventuring and scavenging expeditions.

        Loading editor
    • This seemed to work for the moment. If she held this until they stopped, she’d be fine. But Menagerie couldn’t hold this spell forever. She had to think.

She’d look away from him and hide her face. “I’m... I’m sorry. Those two are really the safest ways for you, and I... I don’t want you getting hurt.” She’d pull him away from the window so that nothing would snatch him if something happened right then and there. “You of all the soldiers here know that Mamono aren’t bad, they aren’t evil. These creatures are out to kidnap you and ravage you for the rest of your life, though. I... I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t have to.”

The drunk man kept on running. It seemed the Mamono stampede was getting farther and farther away. It took his intoxicated brain a moment to process what was in front of him now. A clearing? No, too empty. A lake? No water. A cliff? Eh, maybe.
